S. R. Hatcher

Hello! I’m Samantha.

A writer of dreams and nightmares.

The girl who never stopped daydreaming about fantasy worlds, faraway realms, and fire-breathing dragons.

Welcome to my corner of the internet where I share news on my writing projects, adventures through Skyrim, and jaunts around my local library; just a few of my favorite things!

Let’s break the ice.

I am a writer of Adult Fantasy with a dash-and-a-half of Romance. My current project is a trilogy debuting with THE HEART PEDDLER, the novel I am querying. I also have 15 years of martial arts experience and teach self-defense at my public library.

My backstory began in a tiny hamlet, aptly named Marshville, where I spent country summers pretending to be a dragon and writing stories in my handy-dandy notebook. My twin brother and I spent hours catching hapless turtles in the pond, and on rainy days, building stories together out of Legos. I fiercely guarded my parents’ house from guinea hens - which I chased from our yard. You’re welcome, Mom and Dad!

Now, I am a biologist-turned-nursing student with a dream to become a traditionally published fantasy author who delivers babies on the side. I am here for all the creative, subtly Tolkien-inspired baby names!

Leo. Year of the Dragon. Gryffindor. Night Court.

Married to the man who would make any reader swoon, my husband and I play an undisclosed amount of Skyrim.

I am a survivor of dating violence and abuse, and an out-and-proud member of the LGBTQ+ community. Someday, I hope to be strong enough to help others heal through my characters.

The Heart Peddler is a 125,000-word adult fantasy quest in which a darkly mysterious thief must join forces with a magical princess to find and steal a golden heart.

Featuring an anatomical religion and magic system, this tale will intrigue readers who pine for the male perspective and fans of thieving heists set in a nonwestern world.

Thief.

Wanderer. Adventurer. Peddler.

Odel Bradenday, the most notorious heart peddler in the Empire, is commanded by the Imperial Princess to find the golden heart of the dead prince, her lost fiancée. She promises Odel that if he succeeds, she will grant him freedom from the crime syndicate he has been forced to work for his entire life.

In a society where life is measured in the gold and jewels adorning the preserved hearts of the dead, Odel and the Princess embark on an epic quest, uncovering a much more sinister plot than just a missing heart. Along the way, the princess teaches Odel the true power of the hearts he peddles: the conjuration of memories from the souls preserved within them. But this type of magic – materializing the memories of deceased loved ones – leaves the hardened thief stripped bare, teaching him that chasing freedom is the same as running from it.

As the Baron of the heart peddling organization bears down on Odel and the Princess, they must pull off a grand heist of the Imperial Palace to halt a growing dark force in the Empire.

Ephemeral Gems

Bryte, a frost dragon hatchling, appreciates his life alone in an abandoned castle where he can truly focus on his art. His preferred medium? Ice sculpting.

Everything changes when a hapless family moves in and begins igniting the fireplaces, threatening his collection of precious, frozen artwork.

The legend of the Dragonborn is one we all know... but we must not forget all the other tales which inspire the songs ringing through the Bards College.

Take a deep dive into The Elder Scrolls lore with speculative fanfiction of your favorite nonplayer characters across planet Nirn.

I use this platform as the training ground for my writing. I post short stories here which focus on underappreciated characters in The Elder Scrolls lore.

Combining in-game characters, locations, mechanics, and events with my own imagination, these tales show you what may have happened when the Dragonborn was off on a different adventure.

Enjoy Adult Fantasy content through an accessible lens. I appreciate any and all readers, comments, and feedback!
